While many East Valley elections held July 21 weren’t competitive, some provided candidates the opportunity to gauge voter turnout and to thank supporters in the run-up to the Nov. 3 general election cycle.
That’s what Kristie O’Brien (D-Chandler) did July 22, a day after she and Julie Willoughby (R-Chandler) each were on the ballot for the primary in Arizona Legislative District 13’s Senate race.
Arizona voters select one senator and two representatives from each of its 30 districts in even-numbered years for two-year terms in the legislature. Both O’Brien and Willoughby knew they automatically would advance to the Nov. 3 general election.
