Chandler Police makes 17 arrests in January online predator sting

Posted

The Chandler Police Department conducted a multi-agency operation targeting adult online predators  and  made 17 arrests for a combined 43 sex-related felony crimes.

Conducted from Jan. 24 to 26, the comprehensive operation was one where Chandler Police sought people trying to engage in illicit sexual activities with minor children in the city.

Three firearms and various amounts of dangerous drugs were also seized.

The operation was part of a three-week, Valley-wide operation involving many communities and law enforcement agencies across the Phoenix metro area. Events such as the Super Bowl, Waste Management Phoenix Open, and the Barret-Jackson Auto Auction draw large crowds of people from across the nation and can create a bigger market for human sex trafficking-related activities.

In conjunction with the Gilbert, Mesa, and Glendale Police departments, the Arizona Attorney General's Office, Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI, more than 70 law enforcement officers and professional staff worked  to address the issue of human sex trafficking.

The operation targeted adults attempting to engage in sex with minor children. The priority of this operation was to apprehend these adults..
