Celebrate dogs, enter dog costume contest in Avondale park

A free event to celebrate all things dogs is coming to Avondale.

Barks and Treats goes from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Alamar Park, at 4155 S. El Mirage Road.

Families are encouraged to bring their four-legged friends to Alamar's dog park, where Barks and Treats will feature activities, treats, photo opportunities, and a spirited costume contest at 9:45 a.m. with gift baskets awarded for most creative costume, spookiest furry costume, and best human and pet costume.

The event will include a K-9 demo from the city of Avondale Police Department at 9 a.m., food trucks, pet adoptions from Arizona Humane Society, pet-focused exhibitors, and more.
