Seven local artists from the Sonoran Arts League were honored for their works in the Everything State 48 exhibit currently showing at the Carefree gallery.
The League’s first online show, which celebrates Arizona, is coupled with a live exhibit in the gallery located at 7275 E. Easy St., Suite A104 in Carefree. The juried show runs through Monday, July 8 and features more than 100 original art creations inspired by Arizona's history or present-day life.
“All of the artists who showcase their work at our gallery are Sonoran Arts League members,” painter Linda Lindus, the League’s gallery committee chair, shared in a press release. “We rotate our shows every two months, and now that we have the capability to share them online, we hope to reach art enthusiasts throughout the world.”
An artist reception recognized original creations:
2D Art:
1st Place: Scott Rispin of Queen Creek for “The Red Tree–The Pattern of Space,” mixed media
2nd Place: Jeanne Bonine of Scottsdale for “Beneath an August Moon,” oil
3rd Place: Tiffany Featherstone of Phoenix for “The Zoo Mountains,” acrylic
3D Art:
1st Place: Jenifer Oberle of Surprise for “Let It Ride,” ceramic sculpture
2nd Place: Joel Stevenson of Chandler for “Canyon,” wood sculpture
3rd Place: Terry and Marilyn Alexander of Fountain Hills for “Shaman Blessing,” mixed media sculpture
Lanni Sidoti of Scottsdale also won “Best in Show” for her jewelry.
The show includes a variety of paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glass, fiber, jewelry, photography, and mixed media with subject matters ranging from bold sunsets and serene Arizona landscapes to colorful characters and whimsical creatures.
The Sonoran Arts League Gallery opened in Carefree in January 2023 with the primary goal of helping League members promote their art.
“Many people don’t realize the Sonoran Arts League is one of the oldest and largest arts leagues in Arizona,” Lindus stated. “We have more than 600 members throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.”
The Sonoran Arts League Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month for Carefree’s art walk.
