Camelot Homes is marking its 50th anniversary with a major investment in Arizona arts education. The company is donating $50,000 for endowed scholarships for the ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. A $25,000 scholarship is earmarked for students of ASU’s Popular Music Program, a new bachelor’s degree concentration in the university’s School of Music. A second $25,000 scholarship is available to students studying in any of the five schools of the Herberger Institute. Separately, the company has gifted $10,000 to establish the Camelot Homes-ASU School of Music Concert Series, which kicks off in January 2020. Student musicians will perform eight concerts throughout the year at Camelot Homes’ communities across greater Phoenix. Since the company’s inception in 1969, Camelot Homes has been guided by three generations of the Hancock family, most of whom are ASU alumni, according to a press release. With strong ties to the university, along with a shared passion for the arts, marking the anniversary with an investment in arts education was a natural fit for the company. “We have had a hand in building the Valley’s most iconic communities for the past 50 years,” said Trent Hancock, vice president of operations for Camelot Homes, in a prepared statement. “With this investment, we hope to shape the future of Arizona, to infuse our communities with arts and music, and to establish a company legacy of investing in our youth.” The company, joined by Steven Tepper, dean of the Herberger Institute, formally announced the arts scholarships and concert series at a 50th anniversary celebration on Dec. 2. The event, held at the Villas at Seven Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, invited guests to see and experience the clubhouse, preview two brand-new model homes, and enjoy food, cocktails, and live entertainment from Nate Nathan and the MacDaddy O’s with a special performance by an ASU student string quartet. Over the past five decades, and under the current leadership of co-owners and managing directors, Mark and Julie Hancock, Camelot Homes has reached every corner of greater Phoenix, the press release stated. The company has built and opened 61 residential communities, representing nearly 3,500 luxury homes. “Looking back on 50 years, we are so grateful for the opportunity to serve decades of homeowners all across the Valley,” Mr. Hancock said. “Every year is more exciting than the one before, and each community we build is an opportunity to explore and celebrate the creative process and ensure we’re providing the very best in quality and comfort.” Camelot’s expertise in luxury homebuilding shows in the dozens of local and national awards won for design excellence. In the last year alone, Camelot received national recognition from the 2018 Gold Nugget Awards for Home of the Year, Best Single Family Detached and Best Indoor/Outdoor Lifestyle. Camelot Homes also is a three-time MAME award winner for Builder of the Year.
