Buckeye police join statewide effort to increase seat belt use

The Buckeye Police Department will participate in the upcoming statewide Buckle Up Arizona campaign encouraging motorists to use seat belts and child safety seats to reduce the risk of injury or death in a crash.

According to the BPD, they were  awarded a $5,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to cover personnel costs and employee-related expenses for the two-week campaign starting May 23, through June 4.

During this time, officers will conduct aggressive traffic enforcement and promote safety awareness to increase safety on Buckeye roads.

Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death, injury and property damage in Arizona and the United States. According to Arizona Motor Vehicle Crash Facts, more than 40% of drivers and passengers killed in car crashes in 2021 were not restrained. Three of these fatalities were children under the age of five who were not restrained.

The Buckeye Police Department thanks the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for its ongoing support in encouraging safe driving practices that prevent crashes and make our roads safer.
