Buckeye police arrest teen suspect on weapons charges

A teen suspect is facing felony weapons charges following an investigation into a shots fired incident, according to the Buckeye Police Department.

Just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, Buckeye police received a report of shots fired near 236th Drive and Mohave Street. Officers responded and found no one had been injured.

Officers canvassing the area located multiple spent shell casings and gathered information on a possible suspect description and a dark colored car that may have been involved in the incident. A short time later, officers located a vehicle matching that description about a block away from the scene.

Police say the car was observed leaving the neighborhood before turning onto Watson Road and crossing several lanes of traffic without signaling. At that time an officer conducted a traffic stop.

An officer assisting with the traffic stop allegedly spotted an ammunition magazine in the back seat area. All four occupants were asked to get out of the car, but a back seat passenger, described as a 16-year-old male, initially refused, according to police.

Investigators later found the teen was allegedly sitting on top of a stolen handgun and had an ammunition magazine in his pants pocket.

Police arrested the suspect on charges of weapons misconduct.

The investigation into the shots fired incident is ongoing.
