Tempe City Council and the state of Arizona have reached an agreement to create, enhance and maintain two pedestrian bridges.
The vote, which came in consent fashion, happened virtually at Tempe City Hall during the Feb. 11 City Council meeting.
As part of the Broadway Curve Project, which will widen the road to create more space and better flow of traffic, City Council has agreed to terms, in part, to construct two pedestrian bridges, according to a Feb. 11 city staff report.
The first bridge will be constructed at Alameda Drive --- near the Tempe Diablo Stadium at 2200 W. Alameda Drive --- and the other will connect the Western Canal in Tempe, city officials report.
The intergovernmental agreement between Tempe and the state comes to the tune of $400,000 to complete the municipal portion of the Broadway Curve Project, according to the city staff report.
The two bridges will receive additional enhances as part of the IGA as tenets of the agreement state the city of Tempe is solely responsible for the cost of the designs and construction of the two bridges.
Once the two bridges have passed inspection and final acceptance the city will then be liable for any non-structural repairs. Along with that, the municipality is also responsible for any other possible upkeep or maintenance for the bridges.
The Mayor of Tempe Corey Woods passed and signed this agreement between the City and State, allowing the City to Construction will begin this summer.
