Bonnie Huebert Toews SURPRISE - Bonnie Huebert Toews, of Surprise, passed away on April 25, 2010. Bonnie was born in Reedley, Calif., on Nov. 30, 1933, to George B. and Marie Warkentin Huebert. She attended Reedley schools: Washington Elementary, Immanuel High and Reedley College. She worked in retail sales and later owned and managed a children's clothing store. She married Edward Toews in 1954 and shortly after took care of foster children, then, many nieces and nephews, and eventually started her own day care business. In addition, she managed tree sales every Christmas Season for the 30 years the Toews' Hillcrest Tree Farm was in business. In 1977 Ed, a teacher, changed occupations, and the couple went into full time ministry at the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church. As a teenager Bonnie had participated in church ministry activities, preparing her for the new role. In 1994 the couple moved to Surprise, Arizona and Bonnie continued working in church ministry until Ed's retirement in 1998. Her father, mother, two brothers (Harvey and wife Evelyn Linscheid Huebert; Roger and wife Mary Lou Coole Huebert), two sisters (Ruth Siemens; Frances Jost Hier and husband Paul Jost), a niece (Cheryl Brandt), two nephews (Kenny Siemens and Dennis Huebert), her son-in-law (Clarence Cabezut) and her husband predeceased Bonnie. She is survived by son Bryan Toews and his wife Rhoda of Avondale, Arizona; daughter Coleen Toews-Cabezut of Centerville, Va.; grandson Benjamin Toews of Fresno, Calif., and many more relatives and friends. An 11 a.m. lunch to celebrate her life was held on May 8, 2010, at the Camino Del Sol Funeral Home Reception Center in Sun City West. Later, in Reedley, Calif., on May 14, 2010, there will be a 10 a.m., graveside burial at the Reedley Cemetery followed by a fellowship meal at the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church Social Hall.
