The 6th Annual Mayor’s Blood Drive will return to Glendale this month.
Glendale Mayor Jerry P. Weiers is sponsoring the effort that goes from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10 in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church of Glendale, 7102 N. 58th Drive.
The city’s Employee Wellness Committee is working with longtime partner, Vitalant, a nonprofit blood services provider, to fill the need for red blood cells and plasma units. More blood donors are needed to end the current blood shortage from the holiday season, a press release notes, and donors of all blood types can help and are encouraged to bring a friend who is new to giving blood.
Anyone who is at least 16 years old and weighs 110 pounds can donate.
Donors will receive a voucher for a free one-day admission to the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and a voucher for a free pint of Culver's frozen custard.
Call 1-877-25-VITAL (258-4825) or visit www.donors.vitalant.org (Blood Drive Code: P2Y36) to schedule an appointment.
On Dec. 31, 1969, the President Richard Nixon designated January as National Blood Donor Month to pay tribute to voluntary blood donors and encourage new donors to join.
