Betty Caravaggio passed away peacefully at her home in Sun City on May 22, 2025, at the extraordinary age of 103. Her life was defined by curiosity, energy, and an appreciation for the world around her. The daughter of Hungarian immigrants, Eva and Peter Soos, Betty’s early years were shaped by the vibrant communities of Detroit and Dearborn. She attended Saline Grade School and Fordson High School before pursuing higher education at Western Michigan University and the University of Michigan, where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in physical education. Betty devoted her career to the Detroit public school system, where she inspired generations of students through her passion for physical wellness and education. Her teaching profession allowed her to indulge in her great love of travel. Betty explored the globe and attended numerous Olympic Games, including a memorable six-month sabbatical in Japan to witness the 1964 Tokyo Olympics — an experience that combined her passions for sport, culture, and discovery. In 1955, Betty met Doug, the man who would become her lifelong partner. Their relationship defied convention and expectations — they went steady for four decades, building a bond rooted in mutual respect, laughter & dancing. In 1995, after 40 years, they official tied the knot, affirming a love story that had long since proven its depth and devotion. Together, they embraced a life rich with travel and community. Upon retired in 1975, Betty relocated to Sun City, where she threw herself into community life. Golf and exercise remained central to her routine, but she also found joy in playing bridge, volunteering for local causes, and cultivating award-winning blooms through the Rose Club. With grace, determination, and a spirit of adventure, Betty completed her “bucket list” and more. Hers was a life lived fully — rich in purpose, joy, and global experience. Betty/s legacy is one of inspiration, resilience, and enduring warmth. An incredible woman, an incredible life!
