Avondale suspects may be tied to 26 armed robberies in the Valley

The suspects in an armed robbery in Avondale may be tied to more of the same crime around the Valley.

Records released to the Daily News-Sun Monday morning reveal a group of people were suspected of 26 armed robberies in the Valley, mostly at Whataburger and Circle K locations.

Police began tracking the movements of the four people above, and found them late Thursday night casing a Whataburger near Dysart Road and Van Buren Street.

After an armed robbery there occurred, police followed the suspect vehicle 10 miles to the 9200 block of West Camelback Road, where a grappler was used to disable the vehicle.

Records state Mr. Harris exited the vehicle and headed towards a Circle K at the intersection. He then reportedly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at officers.

Two Phoenix officers shot at Mr. Harris, and a police K-9 helped take him into custody.

On Tuesday, Phoenix police identified the officers involved as Kristopher Bertz, 33, and David Norman, 46. They have 12 and 21 years of experience, respectively, with the Phoenix Police Department.

While police make no mention of it, Mr. Triplett told detectives he “saw Jacob turn and shoot at the officers.” However, no officers were injured.

Mr. Harris was transported to a West Valley hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested Ms. Busani, which records describe as the getaway driver, Mr. Triplett, and the 14 year old, who appears to be Mr. Triplett’s brother.

Mr. Triplett told police he was only involved to protect his brother. He is Ms. Busani’s girlfriend, records indicate. He is also on probation for robbery.

Ms. Busani initially denied knowing anything about the robberies. However, police told her they had seen her casing at least three fast food restaurants.

Both were booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail in lieu of $1 million bonds. The 14-year-old boy was taken to a juvenile center. He did not speak with police.

The adult suspects are due in court Thursday and Jan. 22.

The Daily News-Sun continues to look into whether the suspects are tied to a couple of robberies in Peoria at the beginning of January.

A records request for both incidents were filed as police have yet to respond to multiple requests for information.
