The city of Avondale has formally signed a sister cities agreement with Rocky Point, Sonora.
This agreement was signed at the Western Spirit Scottsdale Museum Of The West at an event hosted by the Mexican Consulate. A formal signing event was attended by Miguel Angel Maciel Felix, the secretary of Puerto Penasco, and Avondale’s Vice Mayor Mike Pineda.
The agreement establishes a five-year framework for collaboration between Rocky Point and Avondale in various areas, including business, commerce, culture, and cross-promotional opportunities. Specific areas of cooperation include strategies to promote healthcare destinations and tourism attractions, joint promotion of events and commerce, the exchange of marketing materials for tourism, and the promotion of community assets such as educational institutions, tourism, and healthcare offerings, including medical tourism and workforce development.
In September the Avondale City Council passed a resolution authorizing the sisterhood agreement between Rocky Point, Sonora, and Avondale to facilitate this international relationship for the benefit of both communities.
“We are excited about the opportunities that this collaboration with our neighbors in Rocky Point presents,” Ken Chapa, city of Avondale economic development director, shared in a press release. “This agreement will create new avenues for both cities to benefit our residents in the years to come.”
