City of Avondale Councilmember Gloria Solorio participated in the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund's Emergency Response Institute designed to enhance emergency management skills.
The two-day event in Dallas, Texas, gathered Solorio and 50 Latino elected officials.
The institute's focus was to equip policymakers with essential emergency management knowledge and skills. Topics included the Incident Command System, a standardized approach used by all U.S. public agencies for emergency response coordination, established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Solorio and fellow attendees learned about their crucial roles in emergency response efforts.
"I am honored to have participated in NALEO Educational Fund's Emergency Response Institute, and I am committed to bringing the knowledge and skills I've gained to better serve the resilient residents of Avondale during times of crisis," Solorio shared in a press release.
The event facilitated networking opportunities for Solorio and other Latino leaders from 13 different states. Renowned experts shared best practices for bolstering governance skills, essential for effective leadership during crises and guiding constituents in times of need.
For over a decade, NALEO Educational Fund has been committed to empowering Latino elected officials through professional development institutes.
