A national call for action opposing federal immigration enforcement is bringing protests, walkouts and marches to Arizona, prompting law enforcement and civil rights groups to highlight what safe, lawful demonstration looks like.
The campaign originated with Minnesota-based Black and Somali student organizations in response to federal immigration enforcement and fatal encounters between Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and civilians. The Minnesota students encouraged a nationwide “ICE Out of Everywhere” day of action Friday, Jan. 30.
While participation and locations vary, events in Arizona are expected to include high school walkouts, local gatherings and a march at the state capitol.
