Arizona Multihousing Charitable Foundation pledges $25,000 to community shelter

Posted

The Arizona Multihousing Charitable Foundation announced July 13 that it’s pledging $25,000 to UMOM New Day Centers after the nonprofit was hit with unexpected expenses this year.

A recent campus inspection showed that UMOM needed to speed up planned repairs to the outdoor playground and indoor gym or close the play spaces, according to a press release.

UMOM is a community provider of shelter, supportive services and affordable housing that builds programs around a simple formula: jobs + housing = ending homelessness.

On an average day, there are 300 kids at the UMOM New Day Center family shelter, the release stated. UMOM also offers over 900 units of affordable housing across the Valley and has long been a recipient of grants from the foundation.

“UMOM came to us with an urgent request to help keep their play spaces on campus open and safe,” said Tina Greco, co-chair of AMCF and associate managing director of Multifamily Investments for Mark-Taylor Residential. “The foundation stepped in to offer the $25,000 and encourage other sizeable donations to defray these needed improvements.”

“We are grateful for the community support to help keep play spaces on campus open and safe for the children and families we serve,” UMOM CEO Jackson Fonder said in the release. “We know we have a partner in the foundation and their support helps ensure that UMOM is a healing space.”

Since 2005, AMA members have distributed more than $1.3 million in grants statewide. The grants are made possible by the AMCF Big Hearts fundraising committee, through annual events like the Bowl-A-Thon, Car Raffle, Silent Auction, Dollar-A-Door campaign, Gaslight Theatre, El Tour de Tucson and the Annual Fun Run.
