Gala fundraiser nets $120K

The Arizona Broadway Theatre (ABT) community, 7701 W. Paradise Lane, recently celebrated The Fifth Annual Broadway Ball, raising more than $120,000 to benefit the theatre and its artistic, educational and charitable programs. More than 200 guests turned out for the event co-chaired by Sharon Jarnagin and Lisa Platt.

The evening included a cocktail hour, three-course dinner, silent and live auctions, the Broadway Ball Wine Pull, and the popular Gift Card “Frenzy.” Live entertainment included performances from ABT’s Mainstage and children’s programs. Guests ended the night dancing to the music of Len King and the AZ Swing Kings who were accompanied by ABT vocalists. Sponsors of the event included Arrowhead Cadillac, the Arizona Coyotes Foundation, TC Schuttler, Arrowhead Dermatology, Low Mountain Construction, the Honorable Cathy Carlat, Mayor, City of Peoria, among others.

During the evening, Kiel and Cassandra Klaphake, ABT’s co-founders and executive producers, spoke about the transformational power of live theatre. The Klaphakes also revealed developments at ABT, including a scheduled Encore Room appearance of musical theatre composer Jason Robert Brown (“The Bridges of Madison County,” “Parade,” “Songs for a New World” and “The Last Five Years”) and the introduction of Valley husband-and-wife duo Mark and Lynzee 4man as co-directors of a new teen performance troupe at Arizona Broadway Theatre.

Arizona Broadway Theatre, Arizona’s leader in musical theatre and the Valley of the Sun’s highest attended live theatrical venue, opened its doors in 2005. Through its Mainstage shows, Theatre for Young Audiences, and Academy for Young Performers programs, as well as through special events and banquet bookings, ABT has seen more than 900,000 patrons pass through its doors.
