All eyes on the Maricopa County Recorder race in Republican primary

Arizona elections seat prepares for rumble July 30

With the primary election around the corner, all eyes are on the Maricopa County Recorder race as three Republicans face off to determine who will chair the elections process in Arizona.

Far-right Arizona Freedom Caucus member Rep. Justin Heap and information technology professional and self-proclaimed “MAGA” candidate Don Hiatt seek to unseat incumbent Stephen Richer.

Since the 2020 presidential election that shone a spotlight on Maricopa County as the center of several false election claims, the race for the recorder’s seat will be closely watched to see who will become responsible for overseeing nearly 60% of the voting population in Arizona.
