The Apache Junction Prospectors (2-23) hosted the Tempe Buffaloes (8-16) on Feb. 1. Both teams were looking to end their season on a high note and the Prospectors were celebrating senior Jacob Glazener as he was playing the final game of his high school career.

The game was underway with perhaps the fullest the bleachers had ever been at the Prospectors stadium this year. The Prospectors were able to strike first with a free throw to jump out to an early lead. The entirety of the quarter neither team could secure a lead for too long. The Buffaloes were able to grab an early five point, 12-7 lead over the Prospectors in the first quarter.

As the second period buzzer sounded both teams hit the court running as each of their offenses exploded. Three pointers seemed to be landing from any range, as the defenses seemingly had no answer for the shooting game. The Buffaloes were able to outscore the Prospectors, however, as they took a 31-21 lead headed into the half.

The scoring continued in the third quarter, especially regarding the Buffaloes as they were able to sprint out to extend their lead. However, towards the end of the quarter, the Prospectors tried to march back and close the gap. Nassir Cobbs of the Buffaloes was able to drain a buzzer beater three as time expired in the half to once again sway momentum in his teams’ favor with a lead of 55-34.

Unfortunately for Apache Junction, there was no comeback to be had in the final quarter of their season as the Buffaloes continued their scoring onslaught and defeated the Prospectors, 68-44.

Glazener was subbed out in the final minute of the game as he seemed to express gratitude to his teammates and coaches before taking his seat.

The Prospectors finished their season with a 2-24 record; however they have nowhere to go but up for next year as some of the younger players look to earn their role. The Tempe Buffaloes finished at 9-16 on the season.
