Agrees that immigration reform, not detention, is needed

OPINION — I agree with the opinion and comments on immigration reform presented by Lisa Everett.

I, too, am not in favor of open borders but I am opposed to the cruel methods that ICE employs and the wholesale approach they’ve taken to anyone who looks like they are not “Americans.”

Immigration reform is long overdue. I’m reminded of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s statement that “the nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.”
