 Grijalva, Butierez advance unopposed in CD7 primary

Preliminary results for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District primary election have been posted, with Democratic incumbent Adelita Grijalva and Republican challenger Daniel Francis Butierez Sr. both running unopposed in their respective party primaries.

In the uncontested primaries, Grijalva received 49,107 votes in the Democratic primary, while Butierez secured 18,181 votes in the Republican primary in early results Wednesday morning.

Both candidates advance from their party primaries to the Nov. 3 general election to represent an expansive district spanning Avondale, Litchfield Park, Tolleson, Buckeye, Tucson, Yuma, and Nogales, along with border communities and rural areas across Southern Arizona.

Preliminary results for Arizona’s 7th Congressional District primary election have been posted, with Democratic incumbent Adelita Grijalva and Republican challenger Daniel Francis Butierez Sr. both running unopposed in their respective party primaries.

Congressional District 7 Candidates

  • Adelita Grijalva: Grijalva is the incumbent U.S. representative for District 7, elected in 2025 to complete the term of her father, former U.S. Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva. Her background includes serving on the Tucson Unified School District governing board and as chair of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, focusing her campaign on education access, economic opportunity, and environmental policy.

  • Daniel Francis Butierez Sr.: Butierez is a business owner and founder of Butierez/Express Painting. Highlighting his personal experience of overcoming past conviction, incarceration, homelessness, and substance use, his platform emphasizes second chances, workforce participation, economic opportunity, and criminal justice reform.

As the results continue to come in, ballot processing will be finalized in the coming days. Official results will be confirmed once all early, mail-in, and Election Day votes are fully tallied and verified.
