A playground at Encanto Park has opened, providing space for children of all abilities.
The playground, located in the heart of the park, offers a variety of options for swinging, sliding, spinning, social spaces and sensory play.
A highlight is the Sway-fun glider – a wheelchair accessible glider that meets all safety standards, Phoenix parks and recreation officials stated in a release.
“This unique feature allows children with mobility limitations to experience the joy of swinging alongside their friends and family,” they said.
In addition, the playground features a communications board sign, providing a way for non-verbal, speech-challenged and early-learning individuals to communicate with friends and caregivers.
"Encanto Park has always been a beloved destination for families in our community. With this new ADA-accessible playground, we are taking a step toward creating an even more inclusive and welcoming environment for all children," District 4 Councilwoman Laura Pastor said.
The playground was made possible in part from a $72,650 donation from the Kiwanis Club of Phoenix.
"Supporting the creation of an all-abilities playground means building a world where every child, regardless of their challenges, can experience the joy of play," Elizabeth Duncan, community service chair of the Kiwanis Club of Phoenix, said.
“It's more than just a playground; it's a testament to inclusivity, community and the boundless potential of every child."
Encanto Park is at 2605 N. 15thth Ave. and is open from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
