AC problems cause Greenfield Junior High to cancel school for Wednesday

Greenfield Junior High School got through the first day of school Tuesday, but the second day is on hold.

Gilbert Public Schools has canceled school for Wednesday, July 26, at the school because of ongoing air conditioning problems.

The school experienced sporadic AC issues through the first day, but technicians could not guarantee that the AC would be completely up and running Wednesday, so the district opted to cancel school for the day.

The district hopes a chiller will be in place Thursday to give the school relief while a full repair is made, Superintendent Shane McCord said. The district has used the chiller solution in the past.

Principal Jodi Smith emailed the school's families to let them know of the issue and that school would be canceled for Wednesday.

"Teachers may be emailing some information to students, which will be optional to complete at home (Wednesday)," Smith wrote.

"The safety of our students and staff in Gilbert Public Schools is a top priority and our district teams and external technicians are working diligently around the clock to resolve the AC issues. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we know making alternative arrangements is not easy for our families.

Smith said the school will keep families updated throughout Wednesday on the progress.
