A new Peoria resident’s perspective on the Amkor plan

Posted

Living with cancer, has me focused on the best choices to enjoy my remaining days.

We recently purchased a home here in beautiful Vistancia. The Amkor plant as planned is not aligned with my choices.

We want to address our concerns with changes to Amkor’s plans. Not solely zoning concerns, but for health, environmental risks, increased traffic and a visual blemish on the landscape literally, in my backyard.

Chemicals are used in packaging that are carcinogenic, catastrophic to fertility and to child development.

Amkor’s promise of jobs doesn’t outweigh these risks or the betrayal of family-friendly vision. Our kids deserve safe playgrounds, not a towering industrial blight.

If Amkor is going to service TSMC, it makes more sense to have it closer to TSMC, with less traffic on roads and the 303 between Lone Mountain and TSMC, reducing foreseeable congestion and air pollution. If there is a spill or a release of volatile chemicals into the air, it won’t be near the school. If Amkor will not service TSMC, they should be nearer to trains and planes.

The Trump administration looks to reduce regulations. There are increased risks with the regulatory laxity. Having the plant further from the school lowers risks to the students.

Making America healthy again addresses the risks to our health from the accumulation of microdosing toxins. Jomax reclamation plant uses reverse osmosis. Currently, ion exchange is not part of the systems to remove toxic metals.

The plans create the blight of a plant running 24/7 to our desert views, light and noise pollution (50 decibels), and a change in traffic patterns all from over promises by Peoria.

The betrayal by the city in late of disclosure of these changes led to resentment in the community.

Representative government is designed to act consistent with the will and interest of their constituents. The betrayal has only made it harder to trust future substantive reviews and decisions.
