A different location for Amkor is imperative

Posted

Mayor Jason Beck claims he was surprised and against it when Amkor came back to double its building height, but he did not push back even though he claimed he was opposed to it. That’s not fighting for us, the residents.

Amkor got almost a billion dollars to build here. The Amkor agreement requires pay of up to $60,000 per year. So much for that narrative of hiring local residents since an article came out recently identifying our ZIP code as two to three times that median income. Workers could not afford to live in Vistancia.

The city has violated many rules by allowing Amkor to build in Peoria.
Section 21-03 of the Peoria zoning code states you shall not ignore or annul an agreement on a property.

The Vistancia agreement supersedes the Planned Community Development. The original Vistancia master plan for that parcel is a 6 story limit, with density limits, violating both.

Finally, Amkor will not improve resident safety, bringing traffic congestion, hazmat risks, water use issues and now concerns over forever chemicals. Has anyone even asked or investigated dangerous forever chemicals risks, especially next to a school?

We are not opposed to the idea of Amkor in Peoria, but another location is imperative considering all these and many more issues, especially the strong opposition from the residents who will have to live near the plant.

Please, we only want what is just for our community. Please, city council members, do the right thing which you know in your hearts to be true.

Have the courage to take a stance and find a way to relocate this plant elsewhere ASAP. We won’t have a second chance to get it right.
