'42nd Street' comes to Hale Centre Theatre stage

Posted

Hale Centre Theatre is bringing the 1980 musical 42nd Street to its stage for a seven-week run beginning Feb. 16.

The musical was based on Bradford Ropes’ 1932 novel and the subsequent Hollywood movie from 1933 starring Ruby Keeler and featuring Ginger Rogers.

The story centers on a young chorus girl from Allentown, Pennsylvania, who is given the chance to become a star. “42nd Street” recalls the classic days of Broadway and the golden age of movie musicals with the tunes, tap numbers and lavish costumes.

Shows run Wednesday-Saturday through April 1. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. each night with 4 p.m. shows added on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $30-$45.
