3-way Surprise council race comes down the stretch

Candidates square off in Independent forum

Raymond Grim hardly ever misses a Surprise City Council meeting. Lew Guyn believes his work experience has prepared him to become a city councilman. Nick Haney says his roots growing up in Surprise make him a natural leader for the city.

The three candidates in District 1 are trying to distinguish themselves as they head into the final weeks of the Aug. 2 primary election, where one of them will try to earn more than 50% of the vote to win the election outright and not require a runoff in the November general election.

They got a chance to set themselves apart July 6 at a candidate forum put on by Independent Newsmedia at the Public Safety Auditorium near Surprise City Hall.
