A 16-year-old boy is the second suspected arrested in the September shooting death of a 15-year-old girl, and Phoenix police said they believe others are involved.
Jason “JJ” Richards has been booked into a juvenile corrections center after his arrest on June 5, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
Isaac Orozco, 17, had been arrested earlier, police said. A Maricopa County grand jury indicted him on two felony charges, included second-degree murder, an earlier release stated.
Phoenix police officers responded about 8 a.m. Sept. 3 to a home near 109th Avenue and Taft Street. They found Giaginette Brown, 15, with at least one gunshot wound. Despite life-saving measures, she was pronounced dead.
During an initial investigation, detectives said the girl was in her bed when shots entered her home between midnight and 3 a.m. At least one of the several bullets that entered the house struck the victim.
Police said they believe the home was the intended target of the shooting.
Homicide investigators are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information about others who may have been involved to contact the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness at 480(WITNESS) or 480(TESTIGO) and provide an anonymous tip.
