The Glendale Chamber of Commerce is working with Vitalant and asking for donors to help meet the care needs for local hospitals with two upcoming blood drives in town.

The first opportunity takes place between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 during the Stand Up for Veterans event at Arizona Christian University, 1 W. Firestorm Way. The blood drive will be inside Snell Classrooms 1 and 2.

The second will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 at a Bloodmobile in the parking lot at Credit Union West, 10150 W. Desert River Blvd.

“Nonprofit blood services provider Vitalant has a blood emergency after its blood supply fell nearly 50% from the beginning of the summer and urges all eligible donors to make an appointment to donate and help replenish the blood supply,” the Vitalant website states this month.

All blood types are needed, especially the most commonly transfused, type O. Emergency room personnel reach for O-negative when there is not time to determine a patient’s blood type, and O-positive can help anyone with Rh-positive blood, Vitalant notes.

Click here to schedule a donation appointment for the Sept. 24 opportunity, or here for the Oct. 5 donation event.
