Apache Junction has sites and attractions unlike other cities in metro Phoenix, including a monument erected in the 1930s honoring Jacob Waltz, a prospector who found gold in the nearby Superstition Mountains in the 1800s but its location has remained a mystery.
Just north of the city of Apache Junction is Lost Dutchman State Park, a gateway to the Superstition Mountains; the Superstition Mountain — Lost Dutchman Museum; and the Goldfield Ghost Town.
Those interested in cooling off at the city pool or wanting to use their skateboard can go to the Superstition Shadows Aquatic Center and skate park.
