Thunderbirds Charities has awarded the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale $500,000 to expand affordable after school programming for approximately 400 South Scottsdale youth at the Ruth Barker Branch and newly opened Steve and Maria Sanghi Branches.
At both clubs, afternoons can mean homework help, a science, technology, enginering and math project in the makerspace, time in the art room or gym, leadership opportunities or simply having a caring adult there to listen, according to a press release.
For families, it means knowing their children have a safe place to go after the school day ends.
