Scottsdale seeks alternatives after large-lot preservation pushback

Scottsdale City Council appears to be hearing concerns about its Desert Rural land-use category idea after pressure has mounted from outside constituents — concurrently, officials believe the state is seeking to restrict this type of change first.

Reportedly, state law makers are drafting an amendment Scottsdale City Attorney Sherry Scott says would prohibit general plan updates such as Scottsdale’s move to develop a “desert rural” general plan land-use change that would make residential development more difficult for builders.

“I do think there is a law coming our way that is going to take way the city’s ability to move forward with the current plan with desert rural,” Ms. Scott said during an April 13 City Council meeting.
