Scottsdale Schools hosts next meeting virtually amid ‘open calls for disruption’

The Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board will host its May 18 make-up meeting virtually tonight to ensure safety as police and school officials estimate hundreds of potential attendees.

Following the cancellation of its last meeting, Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walther recommended the SUSD Governing Board and superintendent consider its meeting format options to ensure public safety.

“Based on the increased attention and interest the board meeting has generated on social media and in the news, coupled with the attendance numbers and behavior at Tuesday’s meeting, as well as attendance at similar meetings in other school districts, it is likely that at least 300-plus attendees will be present at the next meeting, if not significantly more,” Chief Walter said in a written statement to the district.
