The seven members of the suspected Colombian theft group arrested by Scottsdale Police officers May 23 were all still in the Maricopa County Jail May 28 on $150,000 cash-only bonds, but that would not be the case if things had played out as business as usual in the courts, according to Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell.
If each of the suspects were simply run through the standard court matrix, they would be released on their own recognizance because they have no prior record here and they are suspected of nonviolent crimes, Mitchell said at a morning press conference May 28.
“Having individuals come here specifically for the purpose of committing crimes in our community should absolutely warrant more than an (own recognizance) bond. I want to give a shout out to the attorneys in my office that went before the court, made the arguments provided by Scottsdale Police Department and were able to have the court order a $150,000 cash-only bond (per suspect).”
