Scottsdale musician named a Yamaha Artist

Posted

Desert Hills Community School of Music’s Artistic Director Vitaly Serebriakov was recently named a Yamaha Artist.

This designation is bestowed upon artists who are active performers and/or teachers in the music industry, currently play or have expressed a preference for Yamaha instruments and demonstrate a commitment to quality in all aspects of music. While artists typically must apply to the program, Yamaha reached out to Serebriakov and invited him to join its classical pianists family.

“It is such an honor and privilege to be part of the Yamaha family, and I am grateful to everyone who continues to support and encourage me on my musical journey,” Serebriakov said in a press release. “I choose to perform and teach on Yamaha pianos because I am confident my musical ideas will come through in the most nuanced and detailed way possible. The rich and well-balanced tone, combined with the perfect action of Yamaha pianos, makes the music-making experience truly unforgettable and delightful.”

Yamaha artists belong to a worldwide family of musicians, whom the company supports in several different ways. For instance, they are promoted on Yamaha’s Global Artist Website, have their writings published in Yamaha’s publications, and receive professional advice and career guidance.

With a career as a critically acclaimed pianist, teaching artist, and recording engineer, Serebriakov has been described by Fanfare Magazine as a “thoughtful artist with a firm technique, a gorgeous tone, and a sensitive touch.” He has performed in concerts and recitals around the world in leading venues, including Carnegie Hall and Steinway Hall in New York City. In addition to serving as artistic director for Desert Hills Community School, Serebriakov is an artist-in-residence for the Scottsdale Philharmonic and regularly performs with the orchestra.

Serebriakov has received several awards and accolades – including the Recognition Award given by the Russian Ministry of Science and Education – and has performed and collaborated with numerous conductors.

As a recording engineer, Serebriakov has produced and engineered several CDs for the Blue Griffin label. His engineering work has been reviewed in major periodicals including American Record Guide, Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine. In addition, Serebriakov recent CD, “Infinitude” – a collection of piano music by Scriabin, Medtner, and Prokofiev – has been highly praised by music critics.

Together with his wife Svetlana Obregon, with whom he shares the role of Artistic Director at Desert Hills Community School, Serebriakov co-founded Ostinato Conservatory of Music in Verrado, Ariz., a destination for young artists to start their musical journey. He frequently participates in and gives masterclasses at local MTNA conferences, serves as a jury member for piano competitions, including the Dean & Carolyn Elder Piano Competition and PMTA Fall Festival & Competition, and is an active adjudicator for the Arizona Study Program. His students have successfully passed ABRSM, ASP, and Royal Conservatory of Music examinations, and have won local and international piano competitions.

Serebriakov is a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance candidate at Arizona State University. He graduated with highest honors from the acclaimed Balakirev Musical College in Russia under the guidance of Professor Natalia Fish, and holds a Master of Music degree from Bowling Green State University. In addition, he has studied privately for several years with pianists Vladimir Feltsman and Paul Ostrovsky in New York City.
