Scottsdale considers tightening board, commission member selection

Less than two months after the Scottsdale City Council majority voted to remove a Planning Commissioner, the elected group will now eye a procedural changes when selecting board and commission members.

On Tuesday, May 11, the Scottsdale City Council will be reviewing the procedures, guidelines and protocols pertaining to the city’s board and commission members, including a possible questionnaire for potential board and commission members.

The topic comes after the council voted 4-3 on March 17 to remove Planning Commissioner Prescott Smith for the amount of times he has recused himself during a Planning Commission vote due to a conflict of interest. At that time, many council members voiced feelings of penitence — suggesting studying the rules around the city’s boards and commissions rather than pick on a single person.
