Scottsdale artist finds success in live, work studio

Hunter James Luck has been a self-taught artist since high school, becoming a professional when he sold his first painting called Pelican that now hangs in a home on the Chesapeake Bay.

His art has progressed over the years from the more simple to highly complex, and now that he is in his mid-20s, Mr. Luck is taking more risks and incorporating his world view into the pieces he creates, according to a press release. He has art with fans from London to Virginia to Paradise Valley.

He has been a writer and filmmaker as well, with a degree from Arizona State University in film and media production and experience as a production assistant, writer, director and producer for several projects. Inspired by love, death, fear, beauty and God, Mr. Luck uses these elements to tell stories that rely on history and truth. These stories are also the subjects of his art.

His art is displayed throughout his light-filled townhome in SOHO Scottsdale where he also has his studio. Each piece holds special meaning for him and represents his transition into more difficult art forms and techniques. In recent years he has moved from oil and acrylic into watercolor, which he presents as a paper medium on canvas. Although at one time more reticent about moving into watercolor, now it is his favorite medium, the press release stated.

Mr. Luck says he loves to create and design original artworks, but also takes custom commissions. His website displays his various pieces available or sold, from his early high school days to the present.

He sells originals and will also provide prints on canvas at a smaller cost. Some of his artwork has a Christian basis, as Mr. Luck is deeply religious. Yet, the gallery of his art available cannot be described as only religious as he draws inspiration from his study of ancient cultures, which he says “was the fundamental building block of my childhood education and creativity.”

Mr. Luck’s work can be viewed at hunterjamesluck.com or contact him at hunterjamesluck@gmail.com or 480-772-5858. His studio is located at SOHO Scottsdale near WestWorld, where he lives in a small and unique live-work community with other entrepreneurs.
