Scottsdale resident, Nancy Moore, 91, gives a new outlook to living history as she celebrates her birthday swimming a mile to commemorate her first Alcatraz swim.
Accomplishing the feat three times, she is reportedly the oldest woman to have ever done the task and “finished first in her age group every time.” She is living proof someone can brave the waters surrounding the historic island prison in the middle of the San Francisco Bay.
Recreating and reminiscing about completing the 1.5-mile swim to Alcatraz, the nonagenarian — someone in their 90s — celebrated her birthday by completing a one-mile swim in 45 minutes on June 21, in an outdoor pool at her Westminster Village retirement community, 12000 N. 90th St., in Scottsdale.
