A medical marijuana group is seeking to change spacing requirements between dispensaries and protected uses — schools, churches and neighborhoods — in the Old Town area to fulfill an underserved portion of the city.
A text amendment to municipal code on behalf of Equity Partners, if approved, would reduce the separation requirements from protected uses — residential neighborhoods, schools, parks, places of worship and day care centers — within the Old Town Scottsdale boundary.
Equity Partners officials say the area south of Old Town is underserved for medical marijuana based on the number of patient licenses and lack of available dispensaries. Separation requirements would not change in other Scottsdale areas, according to a city staff report.
