Presented by The Holland Center and Desert Foothills Library, the second annual Desert Foothills Book Festival will take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at The Holland Center, 34250 N. 60th St.

Admission is free to the public.

More than 70 authors from a variety of genres will showcase their books and inscribe all purchases.

The Desert Foothills Book Festival was created by a group of local authors to connect with book lovers and to promote literacy.

“Our goal is to create a positive environment that promotes a passion for reading,” festival committee chair Caren Cantrell explained, “while raising funds for a children’s literacy program.”

Proceeds from the event will fund the nonprofit “Creative Kids: Tell Me a Story,” a workshop where children learn to write and illustrate their own books.

There will also be book giveaways and gift basket raffles.
