Give back to wildlife through themed holiday enrichment party this season

Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center hosts event Dec. 10

Don’t forget about our native animals this holiday season. Get in the holiday spirit and give back to wildlife by joining the bears, mountain lions and coatimundis through an enriching, fun and safe outdoor event. Join the Holiday Enrichment Party at Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. at 27026 N. 156th St. in Scottsdale.

Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center is a nonprofit organization that has rescued and rehabilitated thousands of wild animals over the past 28 years, a press release stated. The center provides an accredited sanctuary for animals that cannot be released.

“Enrichment” is a wildlife management term describing special activities and treats that encourage sanctuary animals to have fun, exhibit wild behaviors and make their days more interesting. Each table at the event will work on a themed holiday enrichment project.

Past projects included special tubes full of scents and treats, boxes of treats covered in ribbons and bows, special bear pies and more. Once all projects are complete, guests will have the chance to roam the sanctuary with a trained, knowledgeable trail guide and observe the animals enjoying their special holiday treats.

So, celebrate the holidays with our animal care specialists and trail guides and give back to our native Arizona wildlife.

There are only eight tables available for this event: Four premium tables and four standard tables. Each table seats a maximum of six people. It is $250 per premium table and $150 per standard.

Guests seated at premium tables will be able to safely enter the animals’ enclosures and place enrichment projects  for the black beats, mountain lions and coatimundis. Animals are randomly assigned to both premium and standard tables.

“The bears, mountain lions and coatimundis are an incredibly special part of our family here at Southwest Wildlife; it is important to us that we give them the most enriching lifestyles to make their days more interesting,” events coordinator Robin Wilson said in the release. “What a more special way to get into the holiday spirits.”

Dress warm, as this event takes place completely outside, bring water and wear close-toed shoes.
