Free equine therapy for ALS

Posted

Now through Dec. 3, a Scottsdale-based equine therapy farm, Hunkapi Programs, is offering a free program to give ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) patients a new reign on life.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and impacts physical function.

For decades, Hunkapi Programs has been utilizing the relationship between humans and horses to aid clients of diverse backgrounds and needs, from post traumatic stress disorder to oppositional defiant disorder. The farm’s latest engagement targeting ALS patients takes place every Friday and Saturday.

Participants will engage in horse activities including mindful awareness, grooming, adaptive riding and more.
