A 7,000-square-foot contemporary Italian steakhouse, The Americano will open in early 2020 at 17797 N. Scottsdale Road.

The Pomo Restaurant Group recently announced the opening of the north Scottsdale restaurant touting a modern approach and Italian spirit with a concept embracing a “European style of personalized service,” according to a press release.

“The Americano will bring the best of Italian firepower cuisine with the finest American steaks,” said the general manager, Paride Guerra, in a prepared statement.

“We want to offer guests a contemporary dining experience that merges both Italian and American influences.”

The menu consists of fine steaks, certified Italian purebred Piedmontese cattle and Domestic Wagyu beef, house-made pasta, organic salads, Italian antipasti and Mediterranean seafoods, including a raw bar and caviar service.

Plus, there will be an extensive wine list with American and Italian labels.

“We are thrilled to introduce our carefully curated menu to guests,” said the executive chef, Matthew Taylor, in a prepared statement.

“The Americano will bring the best of both worlds from Italy and America to provide some of the finest steaks, seafood and pasta that Arizona has to offer.”

The restaurant will house an open kitchen concept with a wood-fired grill used to create the fine steaks and fish, the release described.

The interior, designed by Testani Design Group with LGE Design Build, will have a spacious dining room decorated in a dark grey and light green color pattern, modern art, eye-catching crescent shaped booths and butcher block table.

There will also be an island bar area and lounge with a full view of the terrazza, a large outdoor dining patio, detailed the release.

The Americano’s international team will include the executive chef, Matthew Taylor, a Calgary, Alberta native who also serves as executive chef at Mora Italian.

He previously served as executive sous chef for Michael Mina in Las Vegas and worked in restaurants around the Valley, the release noted.

Also on staff will be Switzerland-born general manager, Paride Guerra, who was previously director of food and beverage of the Hay-Adams Hotel in Washington, DC.

He has covered several food and beverage management roles in some of the finest hotels around the world including the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, The Setai Hotel in South Beach, The Chedi Andermatt in Switzerland and with Como The Treasury in Australia, the release said.

The Americano will also welcome its director of service and beverages, Elya Coffman, from upstate New York. She previously worked at the Starr Group from Philadelphia and was instrumental in expanding its concepts.

Recently, Ms. Coffman was a special events manager for the Diplomat Beach Resort Hollywood in Florida, the release added.

Previous corporate chef for Mina Group’s International Smoke in San Francisco and former executive chef for The Mission restaurants in Arizona, CJ Kahley, will serve as Americano’s chef de cuisine, said the release.

Americano’s Head Sommelier, Nicholas Padua from Hawaii, will curate the wine program with vintage bottles and a mix of boutique and iconic wineries.

He has worked as lead sommelier for the Michael Mina Group in Scottsdale and Miami, and spent five years at the Four Season Resort at Troon North in various management roles, according to the release.
