More than 7,000 residents across Scottsdale have tested positive for COVID-19 this year, state numbers show, as 274 new cases have been recorded during the past week.

Numbers provided by the Arizona Department of Health Services on Nov. 2 show 7,058 total cases of COVID-19 mapped to Scottsdale’s nine ZIP codes.

Based on Scottsdale's estimated 2018 population of 255,310, positive COVID-19 cases totalling 7,058 is 2.8% of the city.

City-wide, compared with numbers last week — 6,784 — there have been 274 new cases since last Tuesday.

The Old Town Scottsdale ZIP code of 85251 recorded 69 new cases of COVID-19, with 1,683 cases total in that area. ZIP codes 85255 and 85260 also had increases of more than 40 cases this week.

More than 90% of cases were mapped to the address of the patient’s residence. If the patient’s address was unknown the case was mapped to the address of the provider followed by the address of the reporting facility, according to the ADHS.

Data available through ADHS shows cases per ZIP code are reported as:

  • 85257: 1,243 cases (up 34);
  • 85251: 1,683 cases (up 69);
  • 85250: 405 cases (up 21);

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

At Scottsdale Unified School District, Chaparral High School has registered 51 total cases as of Oct. 30, as it continues to far outpace any other school with previous or active COVID-19 cases.
