Scottsdale Police Department has issued the following update regarding this investigation: At this time, our detectives have not listed either of the men who shot at each other as a “suspect” or “victim,” but the man who was shot and died was identified as 35-year-old Robert Carlos Padilla from Phoenix, AZ.

Original story below:

Two men were involved in a shooting at a Scottsdale Albertsons Grocery Store Tuesday evening, Aug. 6, according to a report from Scottsdale Police Department.

Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walther notified the mayor and town council of the incident via a report Tuesday evening. According to Walther, SPD responded to multiple phone calls reporting a shooting at the Albertsons at Scottsdale Road and Thomas.

“We saturated the location with PD assets and discovered a wounded person inside the store and another wounded person outside the store near the vet clinic on Thomas Road,” Walther’s said. “The store and vet clinic were cleared for additional suspects by our Special Assignment’s Unit and a contingent from patrol.”

No additional victims were located at the time, according to the report.

While the incident is still under investigation, Walther said initial findings lead SPD to believe there was an altercation outside the Albertsons between two parties, which led to a shooting inside the store. Walther added that, at the time of his report, it did not appear there were additional shooters, but interviews and review of security footage would help confirm that.

Both parties were transferred, with one now reported deceased and the other being treated at an area hospital.

“We do not believe that there is a larger threat to our community at this time,” Walther concluded.
