The two incumbents will be joined by a newcomer in the election for two Higley Unified School District Governing Board seats this fall.
President Amanda Wade and Board Member Anna Van Hoek will seek second terms to the board. They each were elected in 2022.
Joining them in the race will be a newcomer: Michelle Morris, a district parent with a professional background in accounting.
Morris has one child who graduated from Williams Field High School, twins with one at Higley High School and the other at Higley Virtual Academy, and the youngest child at Sossaman Middle School.
In a Facebook post, Morris indicated she wanted to use her background in accounting to help the district through its financial challenges. She also wants to advocate for the students with special needs as she has one child on the autism spectrum.
Wade and Van Hoek have been perhaps the highest profile board members with Wade in her second year as president and Van Hoek a frequent critic of district finances and policies. The two have often had philosophical clashes on the dais.
The two seats will be decided at the Nov. 3 general election.
