The three incumbents on the Queen Creek Town Council will be running unopposed for their seats this election cycle.
Monday’s deadline for those qualifying for the 2024 Primary Election Ballot only yielded incumbents Robin Benning, Jeff Brown and Leah Martineau, who also serves as vice mayor. The primary election takes place July 30.
Robin Benning
Benning was appointed to the town council in November 2009 and elected for the first time in 2012. He won reelection in 2016 and 2020. Benning represents Queen Creek on the Central Arizona Governments Regional Council and the Pinal Regional Transportation Authority Board. He also serves on the town's Downtown Arts and Placemaking Advisory Subcommittee. Benning is a graduate of Queen Creek's Citizen Leadership Institute.
According to this town council bio, Benning moved to Arizona in 1989 and has worked in Queen Creek since 1997 and lived here since 2004. He holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of New Mexico, a master’s degree in urban and environmental planning from Arizona State University, and a graduate certificate in public administration from ASU.
He has certificates from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and the American Institute of Certified Planners, and is a member of the International Code Conference, the National Fire Prevention Association, and the U.S. Green Building Council.
In his spare time, he enjoys reading, music, theater, travel, sketching and social media.
Jeff Brown
Brown was first elected to the town council in 2008, and was re-elected in 2012, 2016, and 2020.
He serves on the town's Economic Development Commission and the Public Safety Retirement Boards. He also represents Queen Creek on the Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority board of directors and the League of Arizona Cities and Towns’ General Administration, Human Resources and Elections Committee.
Before seeking elected office, Brown served on the town’s Planning & Zoning Commission from 2006 to 2008. He also served as chair of the Transportation Advisory Committee, on the Design Guideline Steering Committee and as a member of the Finance Review Task Force.
Brown is a 2003 graduate of the Queen Creek Leadership Institute and in 2007 completed the Community Emergency Response Team training course.
According to his town council bio, Brown and his family have lived in Queen Creek since 2002. He is self-employed, focusing on professional consulting services and real estate investments.
Leah Martineau
Martineau was elected to the town council in August 2020. She represents the town on the East Valley Transportation Infrastructure Stakeholder Regional Committee and on the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Works Committee. She also serves as an alternate for the town's Transportation Advisory Committee.
Martineau was appointed by Mayor Julia Wheatley in January 2024 to serve as vice mayor for a one-year period ending in January 2025.
According to her town bio, Martineau is an Arizona native who was raised in Gilbert. She graduated in 2004 from ASU with her teaching degree. She is passionate about protecting children and serves alongside many nonprofits to fight for the most vulnerable.
Martineau currently works for the Arizona Anti-Trafficking Network, which is aimed at raising awareness, reducing demand, and fostering prevention efforts with youth in pursuit of eliminating human trafficking in Arizona.
Martineau and her husband, Shaun, have three children, Ryker, Amelia and Rigdon.
