Frontier Family Park is going to be our largest park, offering more opportunities for our residents to get outdoors, connect, exercise and play together.”
Queen Creek residents have a new place to play with Frontier Family Park.
The long-awaited park at 20039 S. 220th St. will officially open on Saturday, June 8. A ribbon cutting will take place at 7:30 a.m. From 8:30 to 10 a.m. residents can experience the variety of activities available at the park as provided by the town’s partners, including Little League, Evo Athletics, AZ Soccer, San Tan Youth Football and EV Kickball, according to a town spokesperson.
“Frontier Family Park is going to be our largest park, offering more opportunities for our residents to get outdoors, connect, exercise and play together,” said Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley. “Attendees (to the grand opening) can be among the first to play on the playground, cool off in the splash zone and enjoy the town’s second lake,”
There will also be music, giveaways, lawn games and food trucks will be onsite with food available for purchase.
The 85-acre Frontier Family Park has an inclusive play area, a 5-acre stocked fishing lake, lighted ball fields, picnic areas, splash pad and basketball and volleyball courts. The park also features 24 pickleball courts and a 1.5-mile multiuse path that will span the perimeter of the park.
The Recreation & Aquatic Center at the park remains under construction. When completed, it will include an indoor recreation center with various sport courts such as basketball, volleyball and pickleball. It will also have a fitness area, teen room, childcare and classrooms. The outdoor aquatic center will include a zero-depth entry play pool, competition/lap pool, lazy river and slides. There will be shared space for locker rooms.
Wheatley, along with most of the members of the town council, has been a champion of creating more parks for Queen Creek as part of maintaining the town’s quality of life.
“As a council, we are focused on building a balanced community - one that prioritizes infrastructure and public safety with quality of life,” Wheatley said. “Parks directly impact quality of life, which draws residents, visitors and businesses.”
The town broke ground on the park in August 2022, and construction of the aquatic and recreation center started in May 2023. The center is expected to be open next year. The cost of the park, the aquatic and recreation center and the expansion of Mansel Carter Oasis Park was about $160 million.
“The town is currently in the second half of implementing our 10-year parks master plan. While there aren’t plans to open additional parks in the next five years, we continue to evaluate the needs of the community and actively identifying/purchasing land for future parks,” Wheatley said. “We will be so excited to welcome the community to phase II of Mansel Carter Oasis Park later this year and the Recreation & Aquatic Center at Frontier Family Park in 2025.”
Frontier Family Park’s name was suggested by late Council Member Emilena Turley.
