Through the Leader In Me program, students in the Queen Creek Unified School District can acquire the skills needed to take charge of their learning, grow confidence and develop life skills through their school years and beyond.
The Leader In Me framework is based on “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey. Leadership principles are integrated into daily classroom activities.
This program encourages personal and academic growth, teaching students responsibility, organization, teamwork and problem-solving.
“At Queen Creek, we believe that leadership is for every child,” one QCUSD teacher stated in a district news release. “Our students are taught to take charge of their own success by setting personal and academic goals, tracking their progress in student data notebooks and taking accountability for their learning and behaviors.”
One key element of Leader In Me is project-based learning, which allows students to engage in hands-on, collaborative experiences. Schools host student-led conferences, allowing them to showcase their achievements and leadership skills.
“Leadership is woven into every subject and classroom to enhance academic achievements,” another QCUSD teacher stated in the release. “Students are part of interactive and collaborative learning experiences, critical thinking, and hands-on problem solving.
“Being a leader means taking responsibility, listening to others, and also helping everyone succeed together.”
By promoting a growth mindset, students are encouraged to embrace challenges, learn from setbacks and strive to improve.
Students recognize the impact of leadership in their daily lives.
“Caring isn't just about doing nice things,” one student stated in the release. “It's about making sure that people around us feel loved and important. I always try to be there for my friends because that’s what leaders do. They care. They listen, and they help others be their best.”
