Queen Creek Unified School District schools teamed up with the NFL, Arizona Cardinals, the Arizona Super Bowl LVII Host Committee, Verizon and the Salvation Army Kroc Center for “Super Kids-Super Sharing.”

This Super Bowl project puts books, sports equipment and school supplies into the hands of children in underserved communities.

Four QCUSD schools gathered supplies for Super Kids-Super Sharing. Groups from Jack Barnes Elementary, Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary, Newell Barney Junior High and Queen Creek Junior High donated supplies, according to a press release.

Representatives from the NFL, Cardinals, and the Arizona Super Bowl LVII Host Committee were on site at the Salvation Army Joan Kroc Center in Phoenix on Thursday, Jan. 26 to greet and thank participants during the drop-off event. 

Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary teacher Emily Walicki spoke about the two-week promotion at the school to encourage donations from students, parents and staff. 

“Our Lead Out Loud Club students created videos, posters, made announcements, and made social media posts to let our school know about bringing donations,” Walicki stated in the release. 

Karon Greene, a junior from Queen Creek High, was one of 10 QCUSD students participating in the event.

“We have been organizing books, supplies and sports equipment from the donations,” Greene stated. “It feels pretty good to help a kid who may not have the things that I have.”

After organizing the donations and hearing from leaders of various organizations, students and staff attended an outdoor event to participate in the NFL’s Play 60, an event designed to encourage students to be active and have fun.
